Henry Roukema London ON Obituary, Death Report – January 30, 2026
LONDON, Ontario — With deep sorrow, family and friends announce the passing of Dr. Henry William Roukema, a beloved physician, devoted husband, cherished father, and esteemed member of the London, Ontario community, who died peacefully on January 28, 2026, at the age of 67. His death has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew him and in the broader community he served with compassion and distinction.
Born and raised in Ontario, Henry Roukema dedicated his life to medicine, education, and service. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario’s medical school, he pursued specialized training in neonatal‑perinatal medicine, completing his residency and fellowship before returning to London to care for families at the Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre. For more than three decades, Dr. Roukema provided expert neonatal care, often guiding families through some of their most challenging moments with empathy, respect, and clinical excellence. His leadership extended beyond the bedside into administrative and educational roles, where he served as Director of Nurseries and as an Associate Professor, mentoring generations of trainees and influencing perinatal care practices across Southwestern Ontario.
Dr. Roukema was widely respected by colleagues for his clinical acumen, professional integrity, and commitment to best practices in newborn care. His research interests included neonatal transport systems, fetal toxicology, and optimizing outcomes for vulnerable infants — work that contributed to rising standards in maternal and newborn health care. Even as he advanced in his career, Henry remained humble, always placing the well‑being of children and families at the centre of his practice. (Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry)

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet, his devoted children Leah, Mark, and Paul, and extended family including his mother, siblings, in‑laws, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his father, Job Roukema, his sister Nienke, and other cherished relatives. The depth of his relationships reflected his generous spirit, warm heart, and the meaningful connections he built throughout his life.
Family members and friends have begun sharing tributes that speak to Henry’s kindness, quiet leadership, and unwavering devotion to his community. Loved ones remember him not only as a physician whose care changed lives but also as a mentor, companion, and counselor whose presence brought comfort and strength in both joyful and difficult times. Many recall his love of travel, gardening, good food, and time spent with family — treasures that enriched the lives of those around him.
A public gathering to celebrate Henry’s life is planned to take place at Sunningdale Golf Club in London, Ontario, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This event will honour his memory in an informal atmosphere where family, friends, patients, and colleagues may share stories, condolences, and reflections. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario or a charity of choice, continuing his legacy of caring for families in need.
